Considering The Body And Earths Ecology

“The paintings offer nature, strength and joy against human disaster”
–Emmanuel Aldabert 2015

“The imagery of the earth, its cycles and psychology are the subjects of inquiry in the paintings of Marianne Van Lent. Inspired by the Hudson River and its environs, the content speaks to timelessness and cosmography, mapping and examining the natural world and the body and earth’s ecology.”

“Whereas the beautiful is limited, the sublime is limitless, so that the mind in the presence of the sublime, attempting to imagine what it cannot, has pain in the failure but pleasure in contemplating the immensity of the attempt.”
― Immanuel Kant, Critique of Pure Reason

About My Work

Filtered through memory, my work examines the mysterious forces of the physical world and investigates our fragile position in the universe through the intersection of natural and technological modalities. I construct places, worlds, cosmologies that are represented both in the outer world of nature and the inner world of the psyche.
